The Meaning in the Materials

  • By Team akiiko

A Rakhi Can Mean More Than You Think.

A rakhi is a very small thing to carry so much meaning. A few beads. A thread around the wrist. Something tied in a matter of seconds that somehow holds years of growing up together, fighting over the little things, family holidays, inside jokes, borrowed clothes and the unsaid promise of always showing up.

Maybe that’s why we’ve always liked the idea of making the materials matter too.

THE SACRED BONDS COLLECTION

Chosen With Care

For this year’s Raksha Bandhan collection, we kept coming back to materials that already feel connected to ritual, nature and memory.

Sandalwood beads with their warm, familiar earthiness. Rudraksh paired with small spiritual motifs. Crystals chosen for what they symbolise to different people, a little luck, love, calm or good energy. Even something as unexpected as elaichi husk becomes part of the story, turned into a rakhi that feels distinctly Indian, tactile and beautiful in a way that only well-crafted things can be.

THE BEADED KEEPSAKE SETS

Made for the Person Wearing It

Because siblings are rarely one-size-fits-all.

There’s the one who would choose something spiritual without a second thought. The one who likes things understated. The one who reads their horoscope every morning. The one who would rather wear a simple wooden bead than anything shiny.

And then there’s the sibling for whom none of the above truly works, which is probably why we made personalised rakhis too. A letter. An initial. A tiny detail chosen specifically for them. Sometimes personal doesn’t need to mean elaborate.

THE SACRED BONDS COLLECTION

The nicest rakhis have always been the ones you hesitate to take off.

Not because they’re precious in the traditional sense, but because they remind you of who chose them. That was really the thought behind this collection: to make rakhis from materials that feel good in your hands, carry a little meaning and look beautiful enough to stay on the wrist long after all the sweets are consumed and the family photos have been taken.
